Leader of opposition V K Malhotra said majority of areas in the city are reeling under severe shortage of water but the government was not at all concerned about the problem.

"The Chief Minister is the chairperson of the Delhi Jal Board. She is responsible to ensure supply of water to the citizens," said Malhotra.

Palam MLA Dharam Deo Solanki, Rithala MLA Kulawant Rana and Bijwasan MLA Sat Prakash Rana, all from BJP, said people in their areas were faced with an "unimaginable" situation due to lack of water supply.

They also pleaded with Dikshit to ensure supply of water in their areas.

BJP MLA from Moti Nagar Subhash Sachdeva also urged the Chief Minister to ensure supply of water in his constituency saying most areas do not get water for 10 to 15 days.

Intervening in the discussion Speaker Yoganand Shastri said scarcity of water has become a major concern but no one should indulge in a blame game.

The Speaker's comment drew strong protest from BJP MLAs who said it was the responsibility of the government to arrange water for the citizens.

Dikshit took strong exception to BJP MLAs criticising the Speaker, saying they must honour him.

"You do not have the right to dictate what the speaker should say," said Dikshit.
