Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala today alleged that the BJP "believes" in dividing people on basis of caste and religion and not in removing their sufferings.

He also claimed, at a rally in Sohna Assembly constituency's Tauru, that governance in Haryana had touched a new low under the Manohar Lal Khattar government.

"The BJP does not believe in removing the sufferings of common people and winning their confidence. But believes in dividing people and making them fight on grounds of caste and religions. The BJP did the same in Gujarat and now the BJP is working to divide the society on caste lines in Haryana," he said.

The BJP's slogan for development "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas", has now become "personal development of BJP leaders", so it is necessary to remove this "anti-people" party from power, Surjewala said.

The Congress leader accused the BJP leadership of failing to fulfil its pre-poll promises.

On his party's "Jan Aakrosh Rally", he said it was not being organised to achieve power or electoral victory, but to restore peoples' rights.

"This rally is for returning back smiles and joy to businessmen, labourers, small shopkeepers and farmers, who are suffering for the anti-people policies of BJP governments at states and the centre," he said.

The Narendra Modi government has waived huge amounts of loans of few select industrialists, national media in-charge alleged.

"It does not bother about the crores of distressed farmers who are not getting the promised rates for their farm produces," he said.

"Governance in Haryana has reached such a level that people say that the ministers do not bother about the chief minister (Khattar), the legislators don't bother about ministers and the MLAs says that officers are not listening to their concerns," he said.

Due to its wrong policies, the people of the state have lost faith in the Haryana government, the Congress leader claimed.

"The BJP legislators and MPs are afraid of facing the people in the next elections in Haryana. The Kurukshetra MP has already announced not to contest the next election on the BJP symbol and the Bhiwani MP has expressed his desire to not contest the Lok Sabha election at all. The position of Karnal and Gurgaon MPs is no different," he claimed.

Sohna-Taoru here has never witnessed any riots since the partition of India, but in the four years rule of the Khattar government, the people of Haryana got trapped four times in the the muddle of riots, Surjewala said.

"The peace loving people of the state would not forgive BJP for the same," he said.

Surjewala criticised the Khattar government for making fuel costlier by increasing VAT rates on petrol from 21 to 26.25 per cent and on diesel from 9.24 to 17.22 per cent.

Referring to the vicious cycle of spiralling debt in the state, he said that the BJP government has brought prosperous Haryana on the brink of bankruptcy. PTI CORR.
