"While reviewing our performance in the recently held Assembly elections we found that the state's people did not like the BJP's tie-up with the BSP in 2002. This led to a deficit in their trust, which has not been bridged till now," he said.

In the recently held Assembly polls, the BJP "could not earn the complete trust of the people. It was because of this that we did not get the desired success in the elections".

The saffron party will attempt to gain this trust again and it will "definitely be successful in attaining its previous glory in Uttar Pradesh (which was evident in the 1990s) in the 2014 General elections".

He claimed that voters were "fed-up" with the Congress on issues like internal security and inflation and wanted to "get rid" of the ruling party, which "was fighting for its life".

The BJP leader dismissed notions of an apparent crisis of leadership after Atal Behari Vajpayee and L K Advani and said the party "was not facing a situation where it is split in two," which is developing in other parties.

He also ruled out any change in leadership in Karnataka saying that Sadananda Gowda "was running the government well".
