BJP councillor Azad Singh is all set to become the Mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation as no other candidate has filed nomination for a contest to the post.
Singh, who is currently serving as the Deputy Mayor, filed his nomination papers for Mayor's post and announced his plans to focus on development of rural areas during his year-long tenure.
Poornima Vidyarthi, Ram Kishan Singhal and Mohan Bhardwaj also filed their nominations for the post of Deputy Mayor, Standing Committee Chairman and Standing Committee Deputy Chairman respectively.
Today was the last day for filing of nominations for the NDMC elections which will take place on April 8. As the filing of nominations came to a close, the election of BJP candidates seemed certain as no other councilor filed his or her nomination for the posts in the 104-member House where BJP enjoys a majority.
Talking to reporters, Singh, a councilor from Mundka in rural Narela, said he would carry on the work started by the outgoing Mayor Meera Agrawal.
