Describing Punjab to be a sensitive state, Punjab BJP chief Kamal Sharma said, "People of this state have earned peace by giving so many sacrifices but today certain anti-national forces are determined to again disturb peace and are making efforts to put another black spot on Punjab's face.
"But this will not happen as people of the state are intelligent enough to understand all this," Sharma said.
Meanwhile, Dera Sacha Sauda sect head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is currently abroad on a movie promotional tour, also condemned the desecration of the holy book.
The perpetrators of such a heinous crime deserve the strongest possible punishment, he tweeted in Gurmukhi.
Two people were killed and 75 others, including an IGP, were injured as clashes rocked a number of places in Punjab, including Faridkot, Moga and Sangrur districts, over alleged desecration of the holy book.
