"Senior BJP corporator Ashish Tamrakar, accused of thrashing a journalist - Praveen Tripathi - surrendered before the police on Friday late night after absconding for nearly two months," a senior police official said.
"On Saturday, the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate GK Neelam rejected his bail plea and sent him to 14 days' judicial custody," the official added.
Praveen Tripathi (36), bureau chief of Raigarh's 'Patrika' Hindi daily, was allegedly thrashed by the corporator along with his supporters on April 18, when he went in Tamrakar's constituency for a news coverage.
A case was registered under section 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 307 (attempt to murder) and 342 (wrongful confinement) against 15 people, including Tamrakar, the official said, adding, "three attackers had already been arrested in this connection."
As per the statement of the journalist, the corporator was enraged with the news of the alleged corruption and irregularities in RMC recently published by him.
