BJP corporator, supporters accused of assaulting journalist

A case has been registered against a BJP corporator and twelve others for allegedly assaulting a journalist in Korba town of Chhattisgarh.
No arrest had been made so far, police said.
Praveen Tripathi (36), Korba bureau chief of 'Patrika', a Hindi daily, was allegedly thrashed by BJP corporator Ashish Tamrakar and his supporters yesterday, a senior police officer told PTI.
Tripathi was later taken to a local hospital and his condition was stated to be out of danger.
A case has been registered under sections 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 307 (attempt to murder) and 342 (wrongful confinement) against thirteen people including Tamrakar, the officer said.

Tamrakar, a senior BJP leader, is also a member of Mayor-in-Council at Raigarh Municipal Corporation (RMC).
According to Tripathi, he got a call from an unknown person yesterday regarding irregularities in the distribution of ration cards in Chakradhar Nagar area, Tamrakar's constituency.
When Tripathi went there, Tamrakar and his supporters allegedly attacked him. The corporator was apparently peeved by Tripathi's recent report on corruption in RMC.
