A Delhi court has granted anticipatory bail to a BJP councillor against whom an FIR has been registered for obstructing police personnel of a PCR and assaulting them when they reached near his office on a call informing about a scuffle there.
Additional District Judge R B Singh granted anticipatory bail to Pankaj Kumar Singh, an MCD Councillor from Kunwar Singh Nagar in west Delhi, while directing him not to repeat such acts.
"Though the conduct of the applicant (Singh) is deplorable, as he has snatched the key of the PCR, restraining the PCR officials to reach the needy persons for help as the PCR vans are now-a-days mobile police chowkies, yet since the applicant himself is a public authority and is also apologetic, I consider it fit case for exercise of the discretion.
"Investigating Officer/ SHO of police station Nihal Vihar is directed to admit accused Singh on bail in event of his arrest on furnishing personal bond of Rs 10,000 with one surety of like amount...," the court said.
"However, the applicant is directed to file an affidavit that he shall not indulge in such tyoe of activities in future which can undermine authority of other public authorities," the court added in its order passed on June 27.
The Delhi Police had registered an FIR against Singh under section 186 (obstructing public servants in discharge of their public funactions) and 353 (Assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty)IPC.
The FIR says Singh had assaulted the PCR personnel on June 24 night when they reached Kunwar Singh Nagar on a call that two men have beaten up a girl and her brother.
