BJP councilors were today elected unopposed as mayors of North and East Delhi Municipal Corporations, riding on the dominance of the party's councilors in the two civic bodies.
Adesh Kumar Gupta was elected as North Delhi mayor while Bipin Bihari Singh as mayor of East Delhi.
Gupta said he will work with the officials to make the corporation self-reliant and dedicate efforts for success of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative Swachch Bharat Mission'.
Rajesh Kumar of the BJP was elected as deputy mayor of the NDMC. Senior Congress councilor Mukesh Goel managed to get elected as a member of the standing committee of the civic body.
The new East Delhi mayor said that his focus will be to make the corporation's functioning transparent.
Regularisation of sanitary staff is also on agenda, he said.
Kiran Vaid of the BJP was elected as deputy mayor of the EDMC.
