Opposition BJP today criticised the Congress government in Uttarakhand for reducing the VAT on liquor, saying it was a step towards crippling the younger generation both physically and mentally.
"On one hand, the state government withdrew the relief given by the previous BJP regime in VAT on LPG last month and on the other, it is reducing VAT on liquor," Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Ajay Bhatt said in a statement here.
This will cripple the younger generation both physically and mentally, he said at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna.
The state cabinet has decided to reduce VAT on liquor from 32.5 per cent to 20 per cent, making it cheaper in the hill state.
