Delhi BJP today demanded a high- level probe into the incident of 21 children falling ill after taking folic acid tablets and iron supplements in government- run schools here.
The party has also demanded immediate audit of purchase of iron tablets by the Delhi government, which were being distributed to children in the schools.
"The health of the children studying in government schools should be of utmost concern to any government. But even after so many children fell sick, the Delhi government failed to react and initiate an inquiry," Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel said.
"The Delhi government has been neglecting health of school children. There should be at least a quarterly check up of health for all government school students," he said.
This should happen in reality, not just on paper, he asserted, adding that when BJP comes to power in Delhi, it will ensure that this measure is implemented effectively.
Meanwhile, Goel has directed all BJP leaders in the Municipal Corporations of Delhi to ensure that the quality of mid-day meals meet the required standards in MCD-run primary schools.
Goel, had earlier visited former Delhi CM and senior party leader Madan Lal Khurana in Ganga Ram Hospital to enquire about his health.
Twenty-one students were admitted to hospitals and 200 others complained of illness after they were allegedly given folic acid and iron supplements at Delhi-government-run schools under a newly launched central scheme.
