Former minister and BJP leader Yerneni Seethadevi demanded that the Bhadrachalam division, which is in the Telangana region now, should be incorporated in the residual state of Andhra Pradesh, since some villages in that division would be submerged in the backwaters of the Polavaram project.
Addressing a press conference here today, she said that in order to remove hindrances in constructing the Polavaram project across the river Godavari, the Bhadrachalam division should be incorporated in residual Andhra Pradesh, so that resettlement and rehabilitation could be taken up faster.
Seethadevi hoped that if Narendra Modi becomes Prime Minister, he would construct the first "smart city" here, which would also be the capital of the residual sate of Andhra Pradesh.
Taking exception to Union Minister Jairam Ramesh's claim that because of some Congress leaders, special status was given to the residual state of Andhra Pradesh, she said the status was granted after BJP senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu vehemently demanded special status.
Seethadevi disclosed that she wanted to contest Lok Sabha elections either from Vijayawada or Machilipatnam. If she contests from the district, that could further strengthen the BJP.
