BJP failed to fulfill poll promises: Cong

The Congress today accused the BJP government at the Centre and in Haryana of not fulfilling their poll promises on the welfare of the people, especially farmers.
AICC spokesman and Haryana Congress MLA Randeep Singh Surjewala said that farmers are under debt and feel compelled to commit take their lives due to policies of the BJP government.
He was addressing farmers staging a dharna in front of the mini-secretariat here in protest against the government attitude towards their demands.
A number of farmers under the banner of Haryana Kisan Samaj and Kisan Congress Khet Majdoor gathered at the dharna site and raised slogans against the government.
Surjewala said the BJP government had waived a huge amount of loans taken by several industrialists, but it was not ready to bail out distressed farmers out from the crisis by implementing recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission which recommends fixing minimum support prices (MSP) for crops at levels at least 50 per cent more than the weighted average cost of production.
Attacking the BJP government for the Mandsaur firing incident, he said the "killing" of farmers had exposed the "real face" of the BJP.
The dharna was organized to exposed the alleged anti-people and anti-farmers policies of the union and the state governments, Surjewala said.
Later he submitted a memorandum to the district administration, demanding waiver of loans of farmers, implementation of the Swaminathan Commission report.
