Delhi BJP today criticised Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for asking the residents to pray to the God to beat rain woes and accused her of "abdicating" the responsibility of addressing the serious problem the city has been facing in monsoon.
"It is shocking and beyond anyone's comprehension that how a Chief Minister, instead of taking corrective action, can just ask the residents to pray to the God for doing away with their woes which are actually an outcome of the complete dereliction of duty by Delhi government's Public Works Department," Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel said.
With a spell of heavy downpour on Saturday exposing Delhi's vulnerability to waterlogging, Dikshit had yesterday asked residents to pray to the God so that rains do not return.
Alleging a multi-crore scam in Public Works Department, Goel demanded a CBI probe into spending by the agency in strengthening the major roads and drains in the city.
"The chief minister had announced in February this year that Rs 1800 crore will be spent in coming days to repair all roads and ensure there is no waterlogging in Delhi. But during the last couple of days, the way a large number of PWD roads gave in to the downpour, it is a clear evidence that another scam has happened as Rs 1800 crore have gone down the drain," charged Goel.
"There should be a CBI probe into where all the money meant for PWD roads has gone. The Chief Minister and the PWD Minister should explain where has all the money gone," added Goel.
