Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu today said that people cannot afford the ruling UPA anymore, and it is better if the country goes to early elections.
"The country cannot afford a paralytic government. It is better to end this uncertainty and go for fresh elections at the earliest," Naidu said here.
Referring to the declining value for Indian rupee against US dollar and increasing fuel prices, Naidu said "people of this country do not want this government."
He also criticised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his speech in the Parliament on the missing coal Ministry files and said "as the head of the government, he is the custodian. Either he should fix accountability and sack the person responsible or he himself should own up the responsibility."
He alleged that Singh was trying to defend his political image rather than addressing the challenges as required of him as an economist and as the head of the government.
"As an opposition party, it is our bounden duty to tell the country about your (Singh's) wrong doings, policy paralysis and flip flop on major issues."
Reacting to the recent hike in fuel prices, Naidu said the hike will have a "cascading effect" on each and every section of the society and there will be further rise in the prices of all essential commodities.
