"The state government spends huge money on fake events but does not pay attention to education," Congress state spokesperson, Sushil Anand Shukla, said here today.
He claimed that posts of principals at 18,000 primary and middle schools have been lying vacant.
Over 14,000 schools did not have roofs, while toilet and building facilities were lacking in nearly 24,000 primary and middle schools, he added.
Lashing out at the Raman Singh-led BJP government of Chhattisgarh, he further alleged that nearly 1.5 lakh posts of teachers were vacant in the state.
He alleged that the Right to Education (RTE) Act, which states that 15 per cent of seats in schools are to be reserved for students belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, exist only on paper, because this provision was not being followed.
