The committee led by then JDS MLA A T Ramaswamy submitted its report in two volumes, including an interim report in 2007, but by the time it compiled the final report, the JDS-BJP coalition government had collapsed.
"We have decided to act on the report to clear encroachment of government lands. The process of recovering 2,300 acres of land valued at Rs 5,000 crore in Jala Hobli in Devanahalli taluk of Bangalore North will commence in a fortnight", Deputy Chief Minister K S Eswarappa, holding Revenue Department, told a press conference here.
"We will breathe life into the report. We will study it. Certain issues concerning recovery of encroached land would be brought before the state cabinet for discussion and decision", Eswarappa, who held a meeting with Ramaswamy, said.
Ramaswamy said 41,303 acres of land had been encroached by 45,000 people in Bangalore City District alone and about 8,334 acres of government land had slipped into the hands of influential land mafia who have created fake records.
He wanted the government to get the Presidential nod for the state's Prevention of government land encroachment Bill, which was passed by both houses of legislatures in 2007 and compile Property Register.
