"The local bodies elections has affirmed that the victory of the SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab is hailed by the people and continues to have the popular support of the people," BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said.
She said that the Akali Dal-BJP alliance in Punjab has got a very cler mandate in four municipal corporations of Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Patiala and in three municipal councils also.
Besides, she said out of the 29 nagar nigams that also went to polls, SAD-BJP alliance has won 26.
"We are very happy and we are grateful to the people of Punjab for supporting the Akali Dal-BJP alliance and we shall ensure that good governance and efforts to reach out to the people of Punjab will be undertaken by these elected representatives to the various municipal corporations and municipal councils," said Sitharaman.
The ruling SAD-BJP combine in Punjab yesterday swept the Municipal Corporation polls in Punjab drubbing the opposition Congress in the first trial of strength after the state assembly election in January this year.
The alliance bagged 48 wards in the Amritsar Municipal Corporation, 38 in Patiala, 35 in Jalandhar and over 40 in Ludhiana.
The polls, seen as the first trial of strength between the SAD and the Congress after the assembly poll, were held for 50 wards in Patiala, 75 in Ludhiana, 58 in Jalandhar and 64 in Amritsar.
