The BJP Kisan Morcha will ask chief ministers to boost consumption of staple produce of farmers by ensuring their use in government-run canteens or mid-day meals, a move which comes amid protests by farmers in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Its president Virendra Singh 'Mast' said it is imperative to ensure that the main farm products get a ready market in various states so that farmers do not suffer losses. They resorted to protests in Madhya Pradesh because their produce was not getting sold, he said.
He told reporters that he will write to chief ministers on the matter.
At least five protesters were killed yesterday in alleged firing by the police in Madhya Pradesh. The state government has ordered a judicial enquiry even as the police denied allegations that they had fired.
Singh asked the farmers to keep their agitation non- violent, saying yesterday's violence had diverted the attention from their real demands.
With increasing demand from farmers in different states for a loan waiver on the lines of Uttar Pradesh, he said these governments should consider it but insisted that it was a temporary solution.

The remaining loan of farmers who pay their instalments in time should also be waived off in such a situation, he said.
He also took a dig at RBI Governor Urjit Patel after he warned that the fiscal situation would get out of hand if the states unabatedly continue to waive farm loans.
People in such constitutional posts should not talk like this, he said.
