BJP leader booked for overcharging LPG consumers

A BJP leader who runs a cooking gas agency in Raigarh town in Chhattisgarh has been booked for overcharging domestic consumers, police said today.
A case was registered against Yashwant Raj Singh, Director of HP gas agency here yesterday, following a report by the food department against him, Raigarh Additional Superintendent of Police Praphulla Thakur said.
However, Singh has not been arrested yet, Thakur said.
In his report, Food Inspector Chitranjan Singh alleged that Singh was overcharging consumers in the name of home delivery and making additional profit of Rs 16 per cylinder while huge irregularities were also found in the record of stock in his godown, he said.
Besides, the agency was allegedly indulging in several irregularities in the supply of cylinders, he said.
Initially, a case under the provisions of Essential Commodities Act had been registered against him following which probe was begun in this direction, he said.
However, sections for cheating would also be included after taking statements of consumers, he said.
The former chief of BJP Raigarh Rural Mandal, Singh was the party nominee in 1988 assembly election from Kharsiya constituency but lost.
