A local leader of BJP was today arrested by Assam Police for duping people after promising to secure government jobs for them.
A CID team of the Assam Police arrested Alok Sen, convener of BJP's cultural cell in Darjeeling district, from his house here, said P Pisab, a member of the Assam CID team.
Sen allegedly duped some unemployed people of Rs 45 lakh after promising them jobs in government departments, Pisab said.
The victims lodged complaints with the police and CID and after a year search found Sen in Siliguri, from where he was later arrested.
His bank accounts were being examined and his mobile phones seized, Pisab said.
District BJP leaders were not available for comment on Sen's arrest.
