Alleging police inaction against a ruling BJD MLA who allegedly led an attack on saffron party sympathizers, a BJP leader from Tirtol area in Jagatsinghpur district has approached the Orissa High Court seeking an inquiry against the legislator by an independent investigating agency.
Ramakant Mallick, who had unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Assembly elections on a BJP ticket, has moved a petition that the Cuttack-Barabati MLA Debashis Samantray personally led a group of antisocial elements in attacking BJP sympathisers at Tirtol during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Paradip earlier this month.
Annexing photographs purportedly showing Samantray's involvement in the attack on BJP workers, the petitioner alleged that his representations to the Chief Minister, Home Secretary, DGP and the district SP to take action against the MLA bore no fruit.
"Although an FIR has been filed against the BJD MLA Debashis Samantray, the local Tirtol police are not able to garner courage to take action against the legislator," said the petition.
The petition is yet to be admitted by the court.
