Days after a fire caused a four- storied building in Kalbadevi to crumble, BJP leader Bhimrao Kshirsagar has decided to bear the entire expenses of marriage of one of the resident girl, who was all set to tie nuptial knot by the end of this month.
"I know what it feels when a disaster like this happens just before a wedding. Marriage preparations take at least a year during which parents take loans to make the marriage a success. My parents too did not have any money to pay for my marriage expenses. Thus, I decided to do my bit so that the girl's marriage plans are not shelved due to this fire incident," Kshirsagar told reporters here today.
"I have given her a cheque of Rs 1 lakh as immediate help to carry on with her marriage preparations and I have decided to bear her entire marriage cost as well," the Dalit leader said.
The resident, Priyanka Pol (24), said that jewellery collected by her father after years of hard work was wiped out after the fire incident and that the monetary help would ensure that her marriage concludes as originally scheduled.
"My father, who had collected jewellery over years for my marriage has gone missing after the building crumbled. Apart from that, expensive clothes for marriage, including those given to my in-laws were all burnt. I will remain indebted to Bhimrao Kshirsagarji for helping us with the money," Pol said.
"Though the money he gave us may not be too much for him, it is extremely important for me. With this money, and a promise to help me in case of any difficulty, I will be able to get married," said Pol, who plans to get married on May 30.
