Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said the BJP-led NDA government was the "most sensitive" towards people and their ambitions.
"The poorest people are the central point of our policy- making. The recent slashing of GST rates have been welcomed by all, especially the trades," he said.
He said the decision was taken by the prime minister and the finance minister on the feedback given by BJP chief Amit Shah.
Union minister and BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that the slashing of GST rates proves that the Modi government makes decision based on the feedback received from the people.
In its meeting yesterday, the GST council cut the tax rates on over 200 items, to provide relief to consumers and businesses amid economic slowdown.
As many as 178 items of daily use were shifted from the top tax bracket of 28 per cent to 18 per cent, while a uniform 5 per cent tax was prescribed for all restaurants, both air- conditioned and non-AC.
