BJP today met Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi and submitted a memorandum demanding dismissal of the Samajwadi Party government in the state for its alleged failure to check communal riots in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining districts.
A BJP delegation led by the party's state president, Laxmikant Bajpai, blamed the SP's appeasement policy for more than 100 riots which have allegedly taken place in the state since Akhilesh Yadav was sworn in as Chief Minister in 2012.
Giving an account of the alleged riots, BJP members blamed the government for creating communal tension in the state.
Demanding dismissal of the government, which it said had lost its moral right to rule, the team demanded that the Centre order an SIT inquiry against the role of the SP government, the chief minister and UP urban development minister, Azam Khan.
They also demanded a review of the cases lodged by the administration in connection with the Muzaffarnagar and Shamli violence and also called for the immediate release of any innocent persons who might have been arrested in connection with the tensions.
