The Congress today alleged that BJP leaders in Punjab were "playing into the hands" of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, and were not opposing any "anti-people" decision taken by the government.
The Congress, in a statement, said BJP's two-day session in Chandigarh to discuss its strategy against fresh tax proposals by SAD-BJP government was an attempt to "befool" the people of state.
The statement was issued here by PPCC Vice Presidents Om Parkash Soni, Charanjit Singh Channi and Tarlochan Singh Soond.
They alleged the BJP leaders were compromising with the interests of urban people, industry and traders.
The leaders alleged BJP ministers did not oppose state government's decisions of "imposing property tax, hefty fees for regularisation of illegal colonies and introduction of e-trip system of tax collection."
The BJP ministers in the cabinet neither raised voice against exorbitant taxes and other issues, nor did they oppose an unprecedented hike in power tariff for general and industrial consumers, they alleged.
The Congress leaders alleged that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir were protecting corrupt SAD ministers and taking "BJP ministers for ride".
They said the e-trip system will create obstacles in trade with other states and weaken the economy of Punjab.
