BJP legislator Manjinder Singh Sirsa today put up a signage on the Barapullah flyover, naming it after the legendary Sikh warrior Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, and accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of forgetting his promise to do so.
The Delhi government in June last year had decided to name the flyover after Baba Banda Singh Bahadur on the 300th anniversary of his martyrdom.
But it has not officially named the flyover until now.
"Kejriwal is fond of making promises during elections and forget it once they are over," Sirsa said.
Sirsa said he had written several letters to Kejriwal, requesting him to name the flyover after the Sikh warrior.
"Keeping sentiments of the people in mind, today it has been named as the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Bridge and it will be now known by this name," he said.
The three-phased Barapulla flyover between Sarai Kale Khan and the Jawahar Lal Nehru stadium was conceived during the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Work started in 2015. The flyover was scheduled to be complete this year, but construction has been stuck on the third phase between Sarai Kale Khan and Mayur Vihar.
