BJP MLAs to stage dharna in Lucknow over law & order, power

After protest by its MPs, BJP today announced that all its MLAs would stage a two-day dharna in front of Uttar Pradesh assembly against deteriorating law and order, poor supply of electricity and other problems facing the people.
"All party MLAs will stage a dharna on September 29 and September 30 on law and order, power and other public related problems in front of the Vidhan Sabha," BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said. BJP has 41 MLAs and five MLCs in UP.
He said that a meeting of important office-bearers of BJP Legislature Party was held at Vidhan Sabha office which was attended by its leader in the assembly Suresh Khanna and in the council Hriday Narain Dixit and secretary Salil Bishnoi.
He said a memorandum would be submitted demanding a check on increasing crime rate in the state, to stop harassment of BJP workers and establish rule of law.
Emphasis will be given on increasing power generation and improving the system. It would be requested to revoke the hike in power tariff, immediate payment of dues to cane farmers along with the interest and timely operation of sugar mills.
It would be demanded that 100 tubewells each be installed on recommendation of the MLAs without any discrimination.
BJP MLAs will demand that protocol towards legislators must be followed by government officials.
On September 1, BJP MPs from UP had staged a day-long dharna in Lucknow as a part of the party's statewide agitation against power crisis, poor law and order situation in the state. As many as 50 BJP MPs from the state participated in the dharna at GPO Park in Hazratganj and later submitted a memorandum to Governor Ram Naik.
