A BJP member in Lok Sabha today demanded stringent action against politicians allegedly involved in ponzi scams in various states, including West Bengal and Bihar.
Nishikant Dubey raised the issue during Zero Hour as members of the Trinamool Congress and other parties raised slogans in the Well of the House demanding steps by the government to bring back black money.
He said the money raised from the poor people through these ponzi scams were being "used to prop up terrorist elements and encourage illegal immigrants." Dubey sought urgent action against all those found guilty, including politicians.
Raising the issue of coal scam, Shankar Prasad Dutta (CPI-M) said the BJP-led government at the Centre "has not learnt any lesson" from the erstwhile UPA government "which fell due to the Rs 1.86 lakh crore coal scam."
The Narendra Modi government was "pursuing the same path by deciding to move ahead with privatisation of coal blocks and has issued an ordinance. It is now prepared to get this ordinance enacted as a law," he said.
Dutta alleged that the public exchequer had lost a huge amount of money and "the BJP government is still moving ahead with privatising coal blocks".
Observing that coal was a national resource and should be used to serve national interests, Dutta said the blocks should be "under the public sector units only and not given away to private or foreign capitalists.
