BJP MP's bill seeks edu system reflective of Indian culture

BJP vice-president and Rajya Sabha member Vinay Sahasrabuddhe has tabled a private member's bill in Parliament seeking to develop a system of education that reflects the "highest ideals of Indian culture and imparts among students vibrant spirit of patriotism".
He moved the Educational Innovations Commission Bill-2017 in the Rajya Sabha yesterday. It calls for deriving lessons from the ongoing experiments in education taking place in Gujarat and elsewhere.
The education system, the bill states, should be reflective of India's spiritual knowledge, robust intellectuality besides being value and skill oriented, and a synthesis of scientific realism and artistic imagination.
Private member's bills have little possibility of getting the parliamentary nod, but Sahasrabuddhe's proposed legislation carries an extra significance as he is a key member of the ruling party's policy and good governance departments.

Among the objectives of the commission, which his bill envisages, is to bring the educational system in line with the vision of pioneers and educationists involved with the Indian freedom movement and also of the progressive educationists of the world.
The prime minister will be the ex-officio chairman of the commission.
The BJP has often accused the Congress of fostering an education system which ignores India's spiritual heritage and civilisational values and has a leftist bias. The BJP's critics on the other hand charge it with infusing educational system with its Hindutva agenda whenever it is in power.
