"BJP is the only viable democratic option in Jammu and Kashmir... Because Congress, the other major national party, has in its bid for power yielded space to separatist-friendly regional parties," Singh said at a party rally in Kathua, 90 kms from here.
The BJP is not controlled by any dynasty and it could choose a tea-seller with a humble background as its prime ministerial candidate because, unlike several other parties, it is "not a mother-son or father-son party", he said.
The BJP leader said Kathua region is discriminated against and several problems of the people of the district are yet to be addressed. Problems of cross-border terrorism, lack of infrastructural support to people living in border areas, inadequate compensation to farmers, and poor irrigation schemes yet to be addressed, he said.
On the occasion, scores of local youths joined the BJP and they were welcomed into the party fold by Singh.
