Seeking to take credit for the arrest of rape accused Uttar Pradesh minister Gayatri Prajapati, the BJP today said this was only the beginning and its government will not allow any slackness in law and order.
In a dig at outgoing Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma said the police which has arrested Prajapati was unable to do so before because Yadav was protecting him (Prajapati).
"BJP chief Amit Shah had said that action would be taken against accused like him (Prajapati) immediately when we would come to power. This is merely the beginning. There won't be any slackness in the matter of law and order. Criminals will have to be behind bars.
"The same police which was unable to arrest him has acted now. It cannot act properly when the chief minister protects people accused of murder and rape," he said.
The BJP has stormed to power in the politically-crucial Uttar Pradesh with three-fourth majority and is set to form the next government in the state.
After being on the run for nearly a month, Samajwadi Party leader Gayatri Prajapati was today arrested from Lucknow.
