Karnataka BJP today petitioned Governor Vajubhai Vala over appointments for the post of chairman and members of Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) and alleged that Chief Minister was overlooking constitutional requirements while proposing names.
A delegation led by BJP state president Prahlad Joshi, National Vice President B S Yeddyurappa and other leaders who met the governor, said, "It has come to our knowledge that the Chief Minister has forwarded a list of persons for being appointed to the post of Chairman and members of KPSC."
Listing out the proposed names, including V R Sudarshan whose name has been recommended for the post of Chairman KPSC, the memorandum detailed how most of them are allied to Congress party or the Chief Minister, some even being accused in cases.
Citing the Supreme Court's order in the case of State of Punjab versus Salil Sabholk and others, the BJP said "if the proposal of the aforesaid persons to be appointed to the post of the Constitutional body were accepted then it would be in clear violation of the order of the Supreme Court."
Flaying the Chief Minister, it said, "constitutional, functional and institutional requirements have been clearly overlooked by the Chief Minister in proposing the names, which is clear violation of the Supreme Court judgement."
"All the authorities in our country are bound by the decision of the Supreme Court under Article 141 of the Constitution of India. Hence, it is humbly requested that such travesty of justice and violation of orders of the Supreme Court should be nipped in the bud by not appointing such persons to the constitutional body-KPSC," the memorandum said.
