BJP today questioned the clean chit given by CBI to Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde in the Adarsh Housing Society scam, saying he cannot be declared innocent till a thorough probe is conducted and the courts exonerate him.

Asked about the clean chit to Shinde, BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said "in the Adarsh Housing scam, the files relating to the case went missing from the Maharashtra Chief Minister's office. Just like in Coalgate, where also the files have gone missing, there has been an attempt to remove evidence."

She insisted Shinde cannot be declared innocent till a complete investigation is held in the Adarsh scam and the final clean chit has to come from the courts after hearing the case.

CBI told the Bombay High Court today that there is no evidence to suggest that Shinde had during his tenure as Maharashtra Chief Minister abused his position as a public servant.
