A day after state agriculture minister Harak Singh Rawat resigned as chairman of Tarai Development Corporation, BJP today sought to grab credit for the development saying the minister's move has been caused by the party's vehement protest over the issue.
However, insisting that his resignation was not enough, Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Ajay Bhatt said the BJP has moved Uttarakhand High Court seeking Rawat's ouster from the House for occupying a post of profit as chairman of the TDC in violation of constitutional provisions.
Attributing the Cabinet minister's resignation from the post to the party's constant endeavours to highlight the unconstitutionality of his TDC post, he said they had earlier approached Governor Aziz Qureshi in this regard seeking his intervention in the matter.
Alleging that Rawat was still chairman of two more offices of profit including the State Seed Certification Board and Uttarakhand Poorva Sainik Kalayan Nigam Ltd in violation of article 191 and 192 of the Constitution, Bhatt said the BJP won't rest till the cabinet minister is disqualified as a member of the state Assembly.
