BJP seeks IT probe into income sources of political parties
Press Trust of India Puducherry BJP functionaries led by pary Puducherry unit President V Saminathan today held a demonstration infront of the Income Tax office here seeking a probe into the source of money for freebies distributed by political parties in various pockets in poll-bound Puducherry.
Saminathan alleged in a release that leaders of some political parties and those seeking to contest the polls were distributing rice cookers, induction stoves, rice, dhotis and saris to attract voters, ahead of forthcoming assembly polls.
They sought the Income Tax authorities to conduct an inquiry into the income and expenditure sources of the parties induling in such activities.
He said the Election Commission was keen on conducting free, fair and honest elections and hence, the current activities of some parties would only tarnish the image of democracy and an immediate probe by the Income Tax machinery is necessary, he added.
