A 21-member delegation of BJP MPs from Madhya Pradesh led by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj handed a memorandum to the President and urged him to direct the Central government to announce financial aid to farmers affected by hailstorm and untimely rains in the state.
Besides, the memorandum also demanded starting Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement of gram crops and revisiting the norms of NDRF and crop insurance.
The delegation demanded that government starts early procurement of gram crop and provide credit limit to Nafed for starting this purchase.
"We are saddened by the fact that so far no action has been taken by the Government of India in matters posed before you and implore you to again intervene," the memorandum said.
She claimed the centre had sanctioned only Rs 388 crore against the demand of Rs 575 crore last year, that too the state had not received.
"We have knocked at the doors of the President to come to the aid of farmers who have suffered due to a natural calamity. For the sake of humanity, government should rise above petty politics. We have asked the President to intervene to help get justice to Madhya Pradesh," Swaraj said after meeting Mukherjee.
