In the wake of Punjab Cabinet's move to make law against desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib more stringent, BJP today demanded the amendment to be carried out in this regard also include incidents of desecration of Hindu idols.
BJP National Secretary Tarun Chugh said those committing sacrilege in Hindu Temples or indulging in desecration of sacred 'Pran Prathishtit' Hindu idols should also be made to face life imprisonment.
Explaining about 'Pran Pratistisht' idols, Chugh said that these were not just idols but specially worshiped idols and believed to be the 'swarup' of God as per Hindu tenets.
The BJP leader said that series of incidents of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and Hindu religious granths was part of a deep-rooted political conspiracy.
