Rajasthan Congress leader Jyoti Khandelwal today demanded CBI probe into the death of cows at the government-run Hingonia gaushala here and alleged that BJP seeks votes "in the name of cows but fails to protect those".
"BJP seeks votes in the name of cows but fails to protect those. The state government should refer a CBI inquiry in the deaths," the state Congress general secretary claimed.
The former mayor of the city alleged that nearly one lakh cows have died in the last 10 years and maximum deaths occurred when Ashok Parnami, the current state BJP chief, was the mayor.
Claiming that she is open for CBI probe into the death of cows during her term as mayor, Khandelwal said inquiry by the probe agency should be conducted into the death of cows during the tenure of present Mayor Nirmal Nahta and Parnami.
However, BJP accused Congress and Khandelwal of misleading people on the issue.
BJP Mahila Morcha spokesperson Nimisha Gaur said, "What the former mayor has alleged is beyond facts. She is misleading people on the issue just for political gain.
