Saffron party ahead in 68 out of 80 seats in an unprecedented surge

Latest poll trends from Uttar Pradesh today put BJP ahead in 68 out of 80 seats in an unprecedented surge for the saffron party which had won only nine seats in the previous Lok Sabha polls.

BHP ally Apna Dal was ahead in two seats while SP is leading in 6, Congress in 3 and BSP in one.

If the current trends continue, BJP will surpass its best ever tally of 57 of 85 seats in the then undivided state of UP in 1998. BJP ally Apna Dal was ahead in two seats.

BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is ahead by 25,000 votes in Varanasi over his nearest rival AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal while Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi is leading by 1,912 votes over his nearest rival BJP's Smriti Irani in Amethi.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi are leading in Rae Bareli and Amethi respectively.

In Baghpat, RLD Chief Ajeet Singh is trailing in the third spot with BJP's Satyapal Singh, a former Mumbai Police Commissioner, leading the tally.

Samajwadi Party President Mulayam Singh Yadav is now leading from Mainpuri as well as in Azamgarh with over 83,000 and 300 votes respectively.

Former Minister of State for Home RPN Singh is trailing from Kushinagar where BJP's Rajesh Pandey is ahead by 8,519 votes.

BJP's Varun Gandhi is ahead from Sultanpur by over 23,000 votes, Maneka Gandhi is leading from Pilibhit by over 30,000 votes, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti leading by over 17,000 votes from Jhansi, former Army Chief VK Singh by over 28,000 votes from Ghaziabad and Congress turncoat Jagdambika Pal leading from Domariyaganj by over 8000 votes.

Rajnath Singh is leading by 14,000 votes over Congress' Rita Bahuguna Joshi while Hema Malini is leading by 19,072 votes.

Samajwadi Party's Dimple Yadav, wife of Akhilesh Yadav, is ahead in Kannauj.
