BJP today accused Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of taking politics to a "new low" in the state by deploying policemen to 'guard' fruit-laden trees at the residence of his predecessor Jitan Ram Manjhi instead of improving law and order.
"Nitish Kumar is losing weight worrying more about Aam (mangoes) than Aam Aadmi (the common man). Crime is on the rise with dacoities and murders becoming commonplace, 'Jungle Raj' is being established in Bihar where all crime records are broken.
"Police should be deployed for people's security instead of securing mangoes and litchis at Manjhi's residence," BJP national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said.
He alleged Kumar had deployed 24 trained cops at Manjhi's residence for protecting mango and other fruit trees and was least concerned about the security of common people.
"It is very unfortunate and a very cheap step taken by the government. Nitish Kumar is biased and is taking politics to a new low. In doing so, he is making a mockery of Bihar and is not just causing damage to himself but insulting Biharis, who are known for their hard work," he said.
Hussain also attacked Kumar for "exporting" six police officers to Delhi when Bihar itself faced shortage in the police force and alleged that law and order situation was deteriorating.
Holding emergence of a "new political alignment" responsible for the deteriorating law and order, Hussain said ever since Lalu Prasad's RJD and JD(U) came together criminals were ruling the roost. RJD has been propping the JD(U) government in the state.

On Sharad Yadav's claim that JD(U), RJD and Congress will together contest assembly polls slated later this year, he remarked "with this Lohia's opposition to Congress has ended".
Noting that the two contested against BJP in Jharkhand but failed to prevent the saffron party's march to power, he said the JD(U)-RJD-Congress alliance will meet the same fate in Bihar.
"They are only trying to get together to stop BJP from coming to power. Lalu and Nitish can never get together. Even if they come together, they will lose as BJP is capable of defeating both of them," he said.
