BJP slams U'khand govt for allocating funds to pvt varsities
Press Trust of India Dehradun Opposition BJP in Uttarakhand today accused the state government of allocating generous funds as grants to private colleges at a time when state-run universities are facing a huge cash crunch.
At a time when state-run universities do not even have the funds to renovate their dilapidated buildings, state government is allocating generous grants to private varsities to please its Cabinet ministers and MLAs who own them, state BJP vice president Dhan Singh Rawat said in a statement here.
The state government granted Rs 50 lakh to a private college in Pauri and Rs 25 lakh to another at Halduchaur in Nainital district recently, Rawat alleged.
Claiming that the grants were allocated to these institutions as they are owned by a ruling party MLA and a Cabinet minister respectively, he said the BJP will not tolerate this injustice being done to the state's education system.
