Opposition BJP today stalled proceedings of the Uttarakhand Assembly for the fourth consecutive day refusing to give up its demand over a CBI probe into SIDCUL land deals, alleging a large scale scam in the transactions to benefit real estate firms.
Soon after the Speaker assumed his chair, BJP members led by the Leader of Opposition Ajay Bhatt rose from their seats shouting anti-government slogans and demanding a CBI probe into the SIDCUL land scam.
Accusing the government from shying away from a probe as it was aware of the scam in SIDCUL, BJP MLAs said they want nothing less than a CBI probe into the land transactions, which they alleged were done to benefit the land mafia and real estate firms.
Opposition MLAs led by Bhatt also rushed to the Well of the House shouting anti-government slogans ignoring Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal's repeated appeals to them to return to their seats.
When Kunjwal's attempts to restore peace in the Assembly went in vain, he adjourned the House till 12.20 pm, which was later extended till 4 pm.
