The Hyderabad State under Nizam rule was merged with the Indian Union on September 17, 1948 following the intervention of country's first Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Patel.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who hit out at the then Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh K Rosaiah for not officially celebrating the day, has ignored the event since he assumed office three years ago, Laxman told reporters here today.
Rao had even asked the then ruling Congress legislators to quit the government to "stand by the people" for celebrating 'Telangana's Independence Day', he said.
"BJP has been questioning the (TRS) government for the last three years. But, the Chief Minister (Rao) is following the path of Rosaiah... I am questioning you (Rao) on behalf of BJP why you are not implementing what you spoke earlier. What is the reason? What are your objections," Laxman said.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh would attend a public meeting to be organised by BJP in Nizamabad on September 17 on the issue, Laxman added.
