Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj told reporters that Joshi has given a notice demanding a discussion on Basu's statement on the state of the economy. BJP has alleged there is a "policy paralysis" in the government and no important decisions are being taken.

"Joshi has said in his notice that the views held by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Basu on the state of the economy are at variance with each other," Swaraj said.

Basu had reportedly said there will be no radical steps to deal with the economy before 2014. He later insisted that he was talking about the fate of sovereign debt crisis-hit Europe's economy.

In a first of sorts, BJP has also fielded new MPs to initiate debates on its behalf in the Lok Sabha during the Demands-for-Grants discussions.

Anurag Thakur will initiate the debate on Demands-for-Grants on Home Affairs, Sanjay Jaiswal on Health, Nishikant Dubey on Commerce and Lalji Tandon on Urban Development.

Other MPs from BJP will also speak on these four key ministries if the party has time slots still available after their main speakers are done. PTI RC
