Gujarat Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia alleged on Friday that the ruling BJP is trying to destroy the "Amul pattern" of cooperative dairy business by bringing in private players in milk processing.
The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which sells its products under the famous Amul brand, has been pressurised by the BJP and one of its leaders Babu Bokhiria to award a contract for milk processing to a private company with no experience, he alleged.
Bokhiria, a BJP MLA from Porbandar, refuted the allegations.
"As per the Amul Pattern, there is no place for middlemen or private firms in the entire process....But now, BJP is conspiring to privatise this sector. They have started it from Porbandar," Modhwadia alleged.
"GCMMF by-laws do not allow private players. GCMMF was created to eliminate middlemen and private players. Now, BJP wants to destroy the Amul pattern and capture its business," the Congress leader alleged.
When contacted, Bokhiria challenged Modhwadia to prove the accusations.
"I challenge him to file a case in the the high court. He can also ask the court to form a special investigation team against me. If proven guilty, I am ready to quit the public life," Bokhiria said.
