Senior Congress leader and Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today criticised BJP's election manifesto and said the opposition party was vitiating peace in Jammu and Kashmir by unveiling its communal agenda.
"BJP is vitiating peace in Jammu and Kashmir by unveiling its communal agenda in its recently-released manifesto. BJP is trying to divide the society on communal lines to get political advantage in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections," Chand said at an election rally in Kathua district.
Chand addressed a series of rallies in the district in support of party candidate from the Udhampur Lok Sabha seat and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
He said Jammu and Kashmir witnessed maximum development when Azad was chief minister. The kind of infrastructure that was developed here benefitted the people in a big way, he added.
The areas that had tourism potential but were neglected for years were given face-lift and brought on the tourism map of the country, he said, adding that all three regions of the state witnessed equitable development during Azad's tenure.
He said it was because of consistent efforts of the Congress-National Conference alliance government that peace and development could be implanted in the state.
The peace process has been brought back on tracks and conducive atmosphere created for ensuring massive development for which the central government also funded liberally.
