Around 200 BJP workers accompanied by three party MLAs today held a demonstration in front of a police station here as they came to court arrest in protest against the city power supply department's move to name them in an FIR.
However, with officials at Kohna police station refusing to place them under arrest, BJP workers, led by MLAs Satish Mahana, Salil Bishnoi and Raghunandan Bhatia, held a demonstration in front of the police station where they shouted slogans against the state government.
During a June 11 stir against frequent power cuts in the city, BJP workers had held a dharna outside the residence of the managing director of the Kanpur Electricity Supply Corporation, prompting discom officials to file an FIR against the protesters for obstructing government officials from doing their duty.
The June 11 protest, which had seen participation by hundreds of BJP workers, was led by the three MLAs in question who today demanded that the police either drop the case against them or place them under arrest.
But officials at the police station managed to send the protesters away upon the assurance that a fair probe was being conducted into the charges against them and any action would only follow once the investigation was completed.
