The Bharat Kisan Union today threatened to launch an agitation against the government to protest against non-implementation of the Swaminathan Commission report.
"The farmers will not pay the electricity bills till the Central government implements the Swaminathan Commission report. An agitation will be launched against the central and state governments at a BKU rally to held at Peepli Anaj Mandi on March 5," BKU State President Gurnam Singh Chaduni said at the 'Shaheed Diwas' of 46 farmers who were killed during various andolans here.
Chaduni charged that the government is running away from its promises. "The farmers have been cheated and deprived of bonus," he said.
Bhura Ram Pabnawa, General Secretary, BKU alleged that "The Central and state governments gave false promises to the farmers regarding implementation of the Swaminathan report."
They gained power by garnering farmers' votes but have now become their enemy, he said.
