Raising slogans against the AAP government in Delhi, hundreds of drivers of black-yellow cabs took out a protest procession today from Rajghat against the order for installing GPS in their vehicles for women security.
The procession of hundreds of iconic taxis caused a traffic jam on the Ring Road during peak traffic hours.
"The procession of taxis mounted with black flags was taken out by five unions protesting Delhi government's move to instal GPS and non-issuance of fitness certificates by the transport authorities to force the decision on them", said Rajendra Kumar Soni, general secretary of Delhi Pradesh Taxi Union.
The protest march concluded at the Delhi Assembly where the taxi drivers met AAP minister Gopal Rai.
Soni said that the government was forcing its decision on black-and-yellow cab drivers as the Transport department was not issuing fitness certificates to the taxis.
"Although they were given time till May to fit their cabs with GPS, it was an arbitrary decision by the state government to give benefit to big cab companies," he said.

"The state government says that the GPS were meant for security of women but we also held women as our daughters and sisters", Soni said.
"There are several areas such as price of the GPS systems that were against us and the state government was not paying any attention as it was trying to force its decision by saying that the High Court had directed for it," Soni said.
There are around 15,000 yellow and black cabs plying across the national capital, from the main railway stations as well as the IGI airport.
